Fertility foods: What to eat when trying to conceive - studies show that eating whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish, and vegetable proteins may increase your chances of conceiving:

  • foods like spinach, brussels sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, citrus fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, and fortified breads and cereals are high in the B vitamin folate. Folate is a natural form of folic acid (which prevents neural tube defects) an essential nutrient in pre-natal vitamins, which you should take prior &  when you're trying to conceive.
  • women trying to conceive can safely eat up to 12 ounces (roughly two or three servings) a week of fish, including canned light tuna, salmon, shrimp, cod, tilapia, and catfish
  • Harvard Medical School found that those who included one daily serving of vegetable protein – such as nuts, beans, peas, soybeans, or tofu – were less likely to have infertility due to ovulation problems. Research also shows that replacing meat proteins with vegetable proteins can reduce the risk of infertility as well.
  • diets that include whole grains are associated with better fertility.
  • full-fat dairy products such as yogurt, whole milk, and cheese increase your chances of getting pregnant, while low-fat dairy products like skim milk have the opposite effect on fertility.

Foods to avoid while planning to conceive:

  • Alcohol
  • Trans fats
  • Refined carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, and white rice can lower your likelihood of getting pregnant. These foods also generally shortchange your body, because the refining process strips grains of key nutrients. Especially if you suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • High Caffeine consumption - experts suggest lowering your caffeine intake even more or giving it up entirely, especially if you're having difficulty conceiving

Remember, calm cool and less stress is the best mental environment for conception.

Keeping a morning log of your temperature before getting out of bed + noticing the tiny jump in temperature pattern likely means ovulation is ocurring.

  • "A review of 43 studies published from 1997 to 2016 concluded that ChasteberryVitex agnus-castus is beneficial in treating infertility disorder in both men and women (as well as the treatment of PMS). The researchers hypothesized that chemical compounds in the plant influence the pituitary gland, which in turn decrease prolactin. Decreased prolactin can affect the levels of follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH) as well as estrogen in women and testosterone in men."

" A 2019 study of 189 women with menstrual disorders showed that treatment with an herbal supplement containing Chasteberry  and folate helps regulate the menstrual cycle, stimulates ovulation, and increases the chances of getting pregnant. Ovulation increased from 10 percent to 43 percent in the subjects during the six-month period of the study, with no side effects reported. Seventy of the subjects became pregnant during the study. The study also showed a decrease of PCOS from 38 percent to 14 percent (26 of the patients instead of 71)."
